ANDS Online Services Release 29 is due for implementation on Wednesday, 3 October 2018.  Please find below the summary of all Release 29 changes with an overview of who, what and how the changes will impact our users.

Research Data Australia (RDA)

Change: Update social login API integrations.

  • Details: Updates to OAuth login APIs from Twitter, Google and Facebook resulted in errors when users attempted to log into RDA via these methods.
  • Impact: (low) Users will again be able to log into RDA using their Twitter, Google or Facebook account. Users will need to authorise RDA to access limited profile information.
  • Action required:
    • No action required from RDA users.
  • Communications and Support:
    • Release announcements will be sent to ANDS staff, Data Source Administrators, ANDS partners, and general users.

DOI Service

Change: Single client account for both Production and Test Minting.

  • Details:
    • Each client’s Test and Production accounts will be managed under a single client account in the administration interface.

    • Each account will contain two App IDs with separate shared secrets. One App Id for Test minting mapped to 10.5072 and one for Production minting.

    • Where a client already has 2 accounts (Test & Production), the accounts will be merged into the new single account format. Client App Ids and shared secrets will remain unchanged. All domains and IP addresses from the Test and Production accounts will be combined in the new account format. The contact details from the Production account will be migrated into the new account.

    • Where a client only has a Test account, this will be converted to the new account format with 2 App Ids. The production App Id will only be shared with the client, after successfully testing the service and signing the DOI Service Participant Agreement form.

    • The My DOIs interface in the RDA Registry will be mainly unchanged and clients will continue to access the interface by selecting either their Test or Production App Id.

  • Impact: (low) Almost all changes are taking place in the account administration functionality. Clients can continue minting DOIs using their existing App Ids and there should be no impact on clients.
  • Action required:
    • No immediate action required.

    • As we will be merging accounts it is important to ensure the contact details for your Production account is up to date. This can be checked from the ‘App Id Configuration’ tab in the My DOIs interface. If the details require updating please send the information to services@ardc.edu.au.

RDA Registry

Change: Replacement of Metadata Quality Report with new Metadata Content Report

  • Details: The Metadata Quality Report which was originally developed to assist contributors with meeting contractual obligations will be replaced by a simpler Metadata Content Report that focuses more on best practice for high quality records.
  • Impact: (low) Data Source Administrators will see a new Metadata Content Report on the Manage My Records, Add Registry Object and View pages.
  • Action required: No immediate action is required.
  • Communications and Support:

Change: New record quality ingest requirements.

  • Details: All records being harvested or manually added to the registry will require a title and a type (e.g. Collection of type dataset). Collections will also be required to have a description. This means that records without a name/title or (for collections) a description, will no longer be automatically published in Research Data Australia (as stated in our Policy).
  • Impact: (low) Should a data source contain such records, the harvest will continue to complete successfully, but any non-compliant records will not be ingested and an informative message will be generated in the Registry Dashboard for datasource administrator review and remediation. Very few records in the Registry will be affected by these changes and there will be no impact for the majority of Research Data Australia contributors.
  • Action required: No immediate action is required.

Change: Upgrade the ORCID widget to use V2.0 of the ORCID API

  • Details: The ORCID widget was originally implemented using V1.1 of the ORCID API which was deprecated by ORCID in early 2018. This change will update the widget to use V2.0 of the API.
  • Impact: (medium) ORCID have made considerable changes to way searches can be performed in V2.0 of their API. This has resulted in significant performance implications for the ORCID widget. Users will notice that searches will take a lot longer to return than they have in the past.
