Research Vocabularies Australia

Change: The canonical URL of the view page of a vocabulary has changed to be ID-based.

  • Who is affected: Research Vocabulary Australia users
  • Action required: Update bookmarks/links accordingly
  • Impact: low
    • For example, instead of a URL of the form https://vocabs.ardc.edu.au/my-vocabulary, the canonical URL will be of the form https://vocabs.ardc.edu.au/viewById/27, where 27 is the ID of the vocabulary.
    • A slug-based URL of the form https://vocabs.ardc.edu.au/viewBySlug/my-vocabulary is also supported.
    • Redirections for the legacy URLs will be in place for the time being, and they will redirect to the new ID-based URL, so there is no urgency in updating any of your bookmarks or links.
    • However, if you have bookmarked or otherwise linked to a vocabulary, you are encouraged, after the release has been completed, to follow the URL in a browser to discover the new canonical URL, and to update the bookmark/link accordingly, or to use the new .../viewBySlug/... URL pattern.
  • Documentation affected/needed: Online Services Technical Updates.
  • Requirements: Release announcements will be sent to ANDS staff, Data Source Administrators, ANDS partners, and general users.

  • Who is affected: Research Vocabulary Australia publishers
  • Action required: none
  • Impact: (low)
    • An embedded HTML editor is provided; it is also possible to edit the raw HTML.
    • The subset of supported HTML elements corresponds (more or less) to the toolbar buttons offered by the editor: a, b, blockquote, br, cite, code, dd, dl, dt, em, i, li, ol, p, pre, q, small, span, strike, strong, sub, sup, u, ul.
    • Almost all attributes are stripped out: the only allowed attributes are href, target, and rel on <a> elements. The target and rel attributes are set for you. (The target attribute is set to "_blank", and the rel attribute is set to "nofollow noopener noreferrer".)
    • There is a limit of 10000 characters for each of these fields. (This limit applies to the complete HTML content of the field, i.e., including the elements themselves.)
  • Documentation affected/needed: Online Services Technical UpdatesRVA User documentation.
  • Requirements: Release announcements will be sent to ANDS staff, Data Source Administrators, ANDS partners, and general users.

Change: CMS page: when adding an access point to a version, an access point format can now only be entered for access point type = File (e.g., not for API/SPARQL).

  • Who is affected: Research Vocabulary Australia publishers.
  • Action required: none
  • Impact: (low)
  • Documentation affected/needed: Online Services Technical Updates.
  • Requirements: Release announcements will be sent to ANDS staff, Data Source Administrators, ANDS partners, and general users.

Change: CMS page: the related entity dialog has been substantially revised, to reflect the raising of related entities to "first class" objects.

  • Who is affected: Research Vocabulary Australia publishers
  • Action required: none
  • Impact: (medium)
    • Related entities may be shared across multiple vocabularies; changing the details of a related entity within one vocabulary affects the view page of all vocabularies that are related to it.
    • Each related entity are "owned" by a particular owner. You may only alter related entities that you own. However, you may copy an existing related entity owned by a different owner, in which case, you then own the copy, and you can make changes.
    • When entering identifiers, you must specify the type of the identifier by making a selection from a dropdown. The value field gives advice about the expected format for the selected type, and any value entered is validated accordingly.
    • Identifiers in existing records in RVA have been migrated based on a "best guess" about their type. For example, identifiers that are VIAF URLs are recognised as such and have been migrated using the identifier type VIAF.
  • Documentation affected/needed: Online Services Technical Updates, RVA User documentation.
  • Requirements: Release announcements will be sent to ANDS staff, Data Source Administrators, ANDS partners, and general users.

Change: CMS page: the functionality to add a related vocabulary that is within RVA has been separated into a separate dialog. It is brought up by clicking the triangle at the right-hand side of the "Add a publisher" button, and selecting "Related Internal Vocabulary" from the dropdown.

  • Who is affected: Research Vocabulary Australia publishers
  • Action required: none
  • Impact: (low)
  • Documentation affected/needed: Online Services Technical Updates, RVA User documentation.
  • Requirements: Release announcements will be sent to ANDS staff, Data Source Administrators, ANDS partners, and general users.

Change: CMS page: removal of a file access point from a published version is now supported.

  • Who is affected: Research Vocabulary Australia publishers
  • Action required: none
  • Impact: (low)
  • Documentation affected/needed: Online Services Technical Updates.
  • Requirements: Release announcements will be sent to ANDS staff, Data Source Administrators, ANDS partners, and general users.

Change: CMS page: when editing an existing published current version, there is now a switch to request a one-off re-harvest/re-import/re-publication of that version. The switch is off by default.

  • Who is affected: Research Vocabulary Australia publishers
  • Action required: none
  • Impact: (medium)
    • Users should be aware that this is a significant change to the default publication process, which always attempted to "re-publish" just the current version. Users now have fine-grained control over "re-publish" behaviour of each version; this is particularly important for projects which are configured to harvest vocabulary data from the ANDS PoolParty server.
  • Documentation affected/needed: Online Services Technical Updates, RVA User documentation.
  • Requirements: Release announcements will be sent to ANDS staff, Data Source Administrators, ANDS partners, and general users.

Change: CMS page: you can add/edit a draft, irrespective of whether the vocabulary has a current published or deprecated instance.

  • Who is affected: Research Vocabulary Australia publishers
  • Action required: none
  • Impact: (low)
    • Selecting "Edit" for a vocabulary from My Vocabs will always bring up the draft, if there currently is one. If you no longer want to retain the draft, you can delete it using the delete icon in the Drafts sections of My Vocabs.
    • Clicking "Publish" or "Deprecate" will result in the current contents of the CMS page becoming the current published or deprecated instance. There will no longer be a draft.
  • Documentation affected/needed: Online Services Technical Updates.
  • Requirements: Release announcements will be sent to ANDS staff, Data Source Administrators, ANDS partners, and general users.

Change: Slug generation has been improved

  • Who is affected: Research Vocabulary Australia publishers
  • Action required: none
  • Impact: (low)
    • (Slug generation is applied to vocabulary and version titles, and is used, for example, in the URLs of generated SPARQL and LDA endpoints.)
    • If a vocabulary or version title contains non-ASCII characters, slug generation will be converted into ASCII equivalents. For example, a version title "你好" will be converted into "ni-hao".
  • Documentation affected/needed: Online Services Technical Updates.
  • Requirements: Release announcements will be sent to ANDS staff, Data Source Administrators, ANDS partners, and general users.

Change: Fix display bug where version section is not shown if only superseded versions exist for a vocabulary

  • Who is affected: Research Vocabulary Australia users
  • Action required: none
  • Impact: (low)
  • Documentation affected/needed: Online Services Technical Updates.
  • Requirements: Release announcements will be sent to ANDS staff, Data Source Administrators, ANDS partners, and general users.
