Terms of Use

The Australian Research Council (ARC) grant information is made available through Research Data Australia (RDA) to enable Australian research institutions to link research grants with their data outputs. This linkage makes it easier to discover research outcomes, trace research impact, reuse research data and foster new opportunities for collaboration. Machine access to this research grant information is possible using the Research Activities API

The ARC is the custodian of the grant information. This information is also available freeofcharge to the public as downloadable datasets via the ARC website .. Any updates or corrections to the grant information are performed by the ARC and are reflected in RDA in subsequent updates.

Data Currency

The grant information is updated annually in RDA from the grant spreadsheets that are published on the ARC website . This is a snapshot of awarded grants at the time of update.

The information is limited to that which was current at the time project proposals were approved for funding and accordingly excludes any postaward variations that may subsequently have been approved (excepting CE, CoE and some SR). For example:

the funding may not have been taken up by the investigator(s) after the project was awarded,
the scope of the research activity may have changed if the amount allocated was less than that requested
investigators may have been added to, or removed, from the project,
the project may have been transferred between Administering Organisations,
the project may have prematurely ceased,
the project may have been extended for funding for more years following ARC review

The RDA system does not allow changes to the grant attributes such as grant descriptions, name of investigators, fields of research, and other provided information by the ARC.

Many institutions also contribute research project descriptions to RDA . A search in the Projects and Grants area of RDA may return both a description of the grant and a description of the active project (which may have additional and more current information than the grant description).

Data Notes

Some information about ARC grants contained in their publicly downloadable spreadsheet is NOT available via RDA. RDA provides an aggregated, generalised Grant/Project search service based on data from from multiple research funders.

The information that is available about ARC grants via RDA is:

Grant ID	The Grant Identification Number assigned to the grant by ARC
Title/Name	The approved proposal title. However, for grants approved from 2014 onwards the ARC no longer publishes the title of the grant, only the description.
Researchers	Any persons participating on a project as a Chief Investigator, Partner Investigator or Fellow. The list of names is provided by the ARC as a single string with names usually separated by a semicolon and with a title, initial and last name. This is stored in a description (type=researchers) element in the RDA record.
Administering Institution	The organisation which submitted the proposal for funding and which is responsible for the administration of the funding. Note that the actual research work may be performed externally to this Institution.
Funding Scheme	The funding scheme under which the research funding was awarded. For a description of these schemes, current and historical, see the ARC website
Year of Commencement	The calendar year in which the project funding was scheduled to start. The calendar year in which the project funding was scheduled to finish.
Year of Completion	The full amount awarded to the grant across all years of the grant as at the date this report was run. Actual amounts paid to Administering Organisations against approved research projects willvaryfromtheoriginalapprovalsshownhereduetoindexationofpayments and other post award funding variations. Funding amounts for projects where grant payments are cofunded or cocontributed, represent only the ARC's portion of the funding.
Funding Amount	For each project proposal, the ARC 'rolls up' the 6digit ASRC/ANZSRC codes, based on their combined proportions, to derive a 4digit 'primary' code for each classification type.
Subject (FOR) Subjects	These keywords are assigned by the applicant to their proposal and indicate the broad research context of a project.
Brief Description	For projects prior to 2004, and those announced after financial year ending 2013, the brief description describes the aims, significance and expected outcomes of a project. For the
