R21 impact and requirements

Please find below the summary of all Release 21 changes with an overview of who, what and how the changes will impact our users. 

Change: The DOI service API has been refactored to incorporate new functionality and to provide a better platform for future enhancements

  • Who is affected: DOI Users
  • Action required: No immediate action required. See Impact below.
  • Impact: (low)
    • New M2M service endpoint URLs have been implemented as part of the updated API. These endpoints have different paths but replicate the existing endpoints. While the existing endpoints will continue to work, ANDS wishes to decommission these in 2017. Our clients are recommended to move to the new endpoint URLs as soon as feasible.

  • Requirements: Release announcements will be sent to ANDS staff, ANDS partners and DOI service users.

Change: The manual minting interface & machine-to-machine service will be updated to support v4.0 of the DataCite Metadata Schema

  • Who is affected: DOI Users
  • Action required: None.
  • Impact: (low)
    • Users manually minting or updating DOIs though the My DOIs pages will be required to provide metadata conforming to v4.0 of the DataCite Metadata Schema.
    • Users of the M2M service can continue to provide metadata conforming to any version of the DataCite schema.

Change: Implementation of DOI Bulk Update functionality which allows DOI users to perform bulk updates to the URLs assigned to DOIs

  • Who is affected: DOI Users
  • Action required: None.
  • Impact: (low)
    • The Bulk Update functionality will be provided through My DOIs in the ANDS Registry and will aid users in managing the URLs assigned to DOIs.

Change: Addition of resource IRI mapping service to RVA

  • Who is affected: RVA Vocabulary Publishers
  • Action required: None.
  • Impact: (low)
    • Vocabulary publishers will have the option to configure a redirect for their IRIs which will utilise the ANDS resource IRI mapping service to resolve them to a Linked Data page hosted on RVA.
  • Documentation affected/needed: Resource IRI resolution service documentation & Online Services News
  • Requirements: Release announcements will be sent to ANDS staff, ANDS partners and RVA service users
